A sunny Sunday on Portsea Island

Life has been very hectic of late for lots of different reasons, so Miss and I gave Mummy some peace and quiet on Sunday and jumped back in the car for a second game in as many days.

We picked up Uncle Mike on the way and headed towards Portsmouth and the John Jenkins Stadium, the new home of Moneyfields FC. Moneyfields Ladies were entertaining Plymouth Argyle Ladies.

The M27 was subject to major delays so we went the scenic route before arriving on the coast at the bottom of the A3 and we headed down Eastern Road towards Portsmouth. With the big floodlights of Fratton Park in the distance, we turned left instead at Baffins Pond and saw the new lights at the end of terraced houses and a sign for the John Jenkins Stadium.

The ground has undergone major changes - with the notable newly built houses at the entrance but most impressively, loads of parking!

You are greeted by The John Jenkins Stadium Signage as well as those for Portsmouth Football In The Community.

It ended up being a gorgeous, sunny afternoon. Luckily Daddy packed the sun cream!

First impressions of the ground are very impressive. There are two pitches (both 3G) separated by a large building which incorporates changing rooms and a bar. There is a large seated stand on the right as you enter, with a tea bar (selling decent sausage rolls) before you find a ladies, gents and disabled toilet. Sadly, despite the new facilities, I didn’t find Baby Changing Facilities, correct me if I’m wrong anyone at Moneyfields?

We had a bum change on the floor of the Disabled Toilet (the lock was very stiff, making it very hard to open the door when finished), checked out the bar (still with limited stock as it was the first weekend of football at the ground) and went to find somewhere to watch the game.

It was scheduled as a 2pm kick-off, but both sides were still warming up until 220pm so we figured out kick-off was actually 230pm, not 2pm as previously stated.

Miss was treated to some of Daddy’s Sausage Rolls and a tub of Pringles and was happy roaming behind the goal, exploring. She also pointed out the trains that kept coming by (hope you’re proud Grandad John!)

As for the game, Moneyfields Ladies won 3-1, scoring two impressive efforts from distance. Plymouth threatened a comeback but were unable to do so.

Miss enjoyed the Pringles, the sunshine and playing with the spare goals and newly-built fencing - as well as spending time with Uncle Mike.

All in all, excellent parking, nice stand, reasonably priced refreshments but disappointing at the lack of baby changing facilities in a new ground and a very stiff lock on the disabled toilet door, that could be problematic if not addressed. Great afternoon out and another four goals! Well played Moneyfields 👏
